I don't want to sugar coat this, but I've come to learn the hard way that a smudged lens can cause many problems to the professional camera operator. A clean lens is a happy lens the way I see it. I thought I would share with you the concerns that most of us have merely endured and yet not fully addressed. That is to say, not addressed in the vernacular as we all know it. To clean a lens properly would of course be the right thing to do and it is probably the easiest way to go, however, it is surprising just how many of us don't sweat the small stuff until it blows up in our faces. While on location in sylmar, California, I found that the haze surrounding the area was frightfully difficult to film even with an amber lens filter. So, I simply took some Windex and a clean dry cloth, using rapid circular motions, and I cleaned it. It was that simple. From that point on, I have had no further complaints from the editing room or while viewing the dailies. The best thing is, it only takes a few moments to do and saves a whole lot of headache. Thank you for letting me share my experiences with you all.
